West Slope Cutthroat Trout
The Bitterroot River
Fall on the Bitterroot
The Bitterroot River flows south to north from the junction of the East and West Fork just below Conner. It flows through the Bitterroot Valley past the towns of Darby, Hamilton, Victor, Stevensville and Florence for approximately 75 miles where it reaches the Clarks Fork River near Missoula.
The Bitterroots' gentle currents make it possible for both wading and float fishermen. The diverse water and quality hatches makes the Bitterroot know as one of the finest dry fly fishing rivers in the state. The dry fly fishing season usually begins sometime in March and goes through late November, depending on weather. Cutthroat, brown, rainbow, bull and brook trout can all be found in it's waters and tributaries. There are 11 well marked and maintained access points along the river.
